Replacing the circuit breaker panel

Replace or expand the main electrical panel?

The circuit breaker panel is an essential component of the electrical system in your home or business. It regulates the power supply to various electrical devices and provides protection against overloads and short circuits. Over time, however, your circuit breaker panel may become outdated and no longer meet current safety standards. In that case, it’s time to replace your circuit breaker panel.

At Markus Techniek, we understand the importance of a properly functioning and safe electrical panel. Our experienced electricians have the knowledge and expertise to replace your electrical panel efficiently and safely. We use top-brand, high-quality products to ensure that your electrical panel meets the highest standards for safety and efficiency. As a result, in most cases we can even offer a 10-year warranty on the installed components.

Our Approach

Our circuit breaker panel replacement service includes a thorough inspection of your current circuit breaker panel and the design of a custom system tailored to your specific needs. We ensure the correct wiring, the right number of circuits, and the appropriate type of ground fault circuit interrupters. We also ensure that the new system complies with all regulations and the highest safety standards set forth in NEN 1010 and IEC 61439.

Our electricians work quickly and efficiently to ensure that your electrical panel is replaced promptly and without any hassle. We minimize disruption to your daily activities and make sure your electrical system is back up and running in no time.

Finally, we will affix a sticker displaying our certification number once we have completed the work. This certification number allows you to request a certificate of compliance if your insurer requires one.

If you’re looking for a reliable and professional electrical panel replacement service, please contact Markus Techniek. We’re always here to help with your electrical needs and offer excellent service and support, both before and after the installation of your new electrical panel.

How many groups?

Appliances with a power rating higher than 2000 watts require a separate circuit.
In most cases, these appliances include, among others:

  • a washing machine, dryer, or dishwasher.
  • a hot-water dispenser such as a Quooker or a close-in boiler.
  • a cooking appliance such as an oven, steam oven, or combination microwave.
  • an induction cooktop rated up to 7400 watts behind a Perilex range.
  • an induction cooktop ranging from 7,400 to 11,400 watts, also known as a (3-phase) cooking unit.

We will also ensure that other high-power appliances—such as patio heaters, saunas, hot tubs, or charging stations for your electric car—are protected against overcurrent at all times by a dedicated circuit breaker or ground fault circuit interrupter.

When replacing the electrical panel, we are required to comply with at least the following requirements:

old distribution panel
  • The distribution panel must be equipped with a main switch.
  • The main electrical panel must also be equipped with at least two ground-fault circuit interrupters.
  • Ground fault circuit interrupters must be rated for the combined current of the utility supply and the PV system. Example: 1x35A main connection + 15A PV = 50A that can flow through the system, so use 63A ground fault circuit interrupters and adjust the wiring if necessary!
  • A maximum of four circuits may be protected by a single ground-fault circuit interrupter, or the sum of the leakage currents must not result in an unwanted trip (NEN 1010:2020).
  • A standard circuit breaker panel can accommodate up to 12 circuits, but this is not always ideal for ensuring proper heat management. Consider installing a PV circuit for solar panels or an EV circuit for charging your electric car. In these cases, we recommend having a larger distribution panel (circuit box) installed, which ensures proper heat management and makes the circuit box more organized.

If necessary, when replacing or modifying your electrical panel, we can equip your new panel with an intermediate meter, a telephone transformer, and/or an additional wall outlet for equipment inside the panel.

We are a member of the trade association Techniek Nederland and are certified by the InstallQ Foundation. In addition, we hold a license for the service areas of Stedin,Liander, and Enexis, which allows us to safely work on (residential) electrical installations up to 3x80A. For example, this includes replacing the circuit breaker panel or the main circuit breaker, and serves as confirmation that this work is performed by an InstallQ-certified electrical contractor.
