Which light bulb?

Color temperatureEvery application requires a different light source. Consider, for example, lighting store windows displaying clothing, where the full color spectrum is desired. Although a full color spectrum is necessary to make colors appear as true to life as possible, there are also applications where the goal is specifically to accentuate colors.

LED lighting and light color

Light color is measured in Kelvin, often abbreviated as “K”. The higher the number, the cooler and bluer the light. The most common standard colors are:

light color

1800K: ultra-flame
2200K: flame-white
2700K: extra warm-white
3000K: warm-white
4000K: neutral-white
6500K: cool-white (daylight-white)

LED filamentFilament bulbs

LED filament bulbs, also known as filament lamps, are a great innovation. These filament lamps are available in the classic E14 and E27 bases and are also referred to as retrofit bulbs. The filament lamp is an energy-efficient LED filament bulb with a slightly golden-yellow glass shade that creates a warm, authentic look.

Without a doubt, Thomas Edison, who invented the carbon-filament light bulb in 1879, would have been amazed by this beautiful and energy-efficient successor to his invention. The traditional carbon filaments have now been replaced by LED versions, which are often dimmable as well. This allows the lamp to retain its charm while also being energy-efficient. This is a lamp for someone who loves creating a cozy atmosphere in their home.

Flicker-free dimming of LED light sources.

Unlike conventional dimmers, which adjust the brightness of connected lighting using leading-edge or trailing-edge control, 1-10V or PWM offer a more stable and reliable alternative. With a leading-edge or trailing-edge dimmer, you can often only dim the light down to 30%. However, with 1-10V, DALI, or PWM, and a properly matched light source and dimmer, it is possible to dim down to 0% without flickering and with high energy efficiency. Whether wired or wireless, the possibilities are numerous.

CRI, Ra, color rendering index.

The Color Rendering Index (CRI or Ra) is a measure that indicates how accurately colors are rendered compared to the color rendering of daylight. This CRI (or Ra) value indicates how accurately the colors of illuminated objects are rendered.  The closer the value is to 100, the closer the rendering is to natural (sun)light (or incandescent or halogen), so that objects look natural.

Frequently Asked Questions:

My lights flicker when I dim them. What's causing this?

This can be caused by a variety of factors, but is often due to the wrong choice of light bulbs or dimmer, or a combination of both. We can quickly identify the cause for you and offer a suitable solution.

Can I set my lights to turn on automatically when it gets dark?

There are several ways to do this. You can use a twilight switch, or, for example, a switch actuator with an astro clock. This is a pre-programmed clock that turns the lights on at dusk and turns them off again at a set time or automatically in the morning.

I want my lights to dim automatically when there’s more sunlight in the room. Is that possible?

Yes, that’s possible. We call this daylight control. A system for automatically controlling lighting based on natural light levels includes a sensor that measures the light intensity indoors and adjusts the connected light sources accordingly. This helps save energy.

Is it possible to have my lights dim automatically when no one is in the room?

Yes, that’s possible. With a standard occupancy sensor, the lights will turn on when someone is in the room and turn off when the room is empty. However, for safety reasons, you may sometimes want the lights to remain on at a low brightness level rather than turning off completely when the room is empty. We’d be happy to advise you and help you explore the various technical solutions available.

Am I required to have emergency lighting in my business premises?

Yes, according to NEN-EN 50172 and the Building Decree (BBL), this is mandatory in most rooms, escape routes, and high-risk areas. We can provide you with customized advice to ensure you have the right lighting installed that meets the standard.

My lights stay on very dimly even after I've turned them off. Why is that?

The so-called "glowing" of LED bulbs is a common occurrence. An LED bulb requires very little energy to light up. If wiring routes are not installed correctly, a voltage difference between wires—also known as induction—can, for example, cause the connected bulbs to glow faintly. Sometimes simply choosing a different bulb is enough to solve this problem. Other times, we need to look for a different solution.

Save on energy

LED lighting is energy-efficient, sustainable, and has a long lifespan. Not only does it offer an eco-friendly and cost-effective solution, but it can also significantly enhance the ambiance of your space through colorful and customizable lighting effects and scenes.

At Markus Techniek, we offer a wide selection of LED lighting solutions for a variety of applications, including indoor and outdoor lighting, office lighting, industrial LED lighting, and much more.
