Which lamp?
Each application requires a different light source. Think of illuminating shop windows with clothing where the full color spectrum is desired. Although a full color spectrum is needed to make colors appear as real as possible, there are also applications where accentuating colors is desired.
LED lighting and light color
Light color is indicated by Kelvin, often abbreviated by the letter "K." The higher the number, the colder and bluer the light is. The most common standard colors are:
1800K: ultra-flame
2200K: flame-white
2700K: extra warm-white
3000K: warm-white
4000K: neutral-white
6500K: cold-white (daylight-white)
Filament bulbs
A nice development are led carbon filament lamps, called filament bulbs. These filament bulbs are available in the classic shapes e14 and e27 and are also called retrofit. The filament bulb is an energy-efficient LED carbon filament bulb with slightly golden glass that provides a warm authentic look.
No doubt Thomas Edison, the inventor of the carbon filament lamp in 1879, would have been amazed at this beautiful and energy-efficient successor to his invention. The traditional carbon filaments have now been replaced by LED versions, many of which are also dimmable. As a result, the lamp retains its charm and is also energy efficient. This is a lamp for someone who loves atmosphere in the home.
LED light sources blink-free dimming.
Unlike conventional dimmers, which dim the brightness of connected lights based on phase-on or phase-off, 1-10V or PWM, for example, offer a more stable and reliable alternative. With a phase-on or phase-off dimmer, you can often only dim the lamp down to 30%. However, with 1-10V, Dali or PWM and a correctly matched light source and dimmer, it is possible to dim as much as 0%, without flickering and with high energy efficiency. Whether wired or wireless, the possibilities are numerous.
CRI, Ra, color rendering index.
The color rendering index (CRI or Ra) is a measure of how accurately colors are rendered compared to the color rendering of daylight. This CRI (or Ra) value indicates how accurately the colors of illuminated objects are rendered. The closer the value is to 100, the closer the display is to natural (solar) light (or incandescent or halogen) so objects look natural.

| Ra | CRI | Example |
| 95-100 | Excellent color rendering | Museums, galleries, graphics, fashion stores, boutiques, hotels |
| 90-94 | Very good color rendering | Luxury stores, luxury homes |
| 80-89 | Good color rendering | Offices, most stores, transportation hubs, leisure |
| 70-79 | Moderate color reproduction | Warehouses, facilities, housing outside |
| <70 | Poor color reproduction | Highways, garages |
Frequently asked questions:
My lights flash when I dim them, why is this?
This can have several causes but is often due to wrong choice of lamps or dimmer or a combination thereof. We can quickly identify the cause for you and offer you an appropriate solution.
Can I have my lights come on automatically when it gets dark?
This can be done in various ways. With a twilight switch but also, for example, with a switching actuator with an astro clock. This is a pre-programmed clock that switches the lighting on at dusk and off again at a fixed time or automatically in the morning.
I want to automatically dim my lights when there is more sunlight in the room, is that possible?
Yes, you can. We call this daylight control. An automatic daylight control system includes a sensor that measures the light intensity inside and controls the connected light sources accordingly. This saves energy.
Can I have my lights automatically dim back when no one is in the room, is that possible?
Yes, you can. With a standard presence sensor, lights will turn on when a person is present in the ry room and off when they are absent. However, for safety reasons, you sometimes want lighting not to switch off completely in absence but to remain on at a low percentage. We are happy to advise you and help you think through the various technical solutions.
Am I required to have emergency lighting in my premises?
Yes this is required by NEN-EN 50172 and additionally the building code (BBL) in most rooms, escape routes and high-risk areas. We can offer you tailored advice so that you have the right lighting that meets the standard.
My light stays on very softly after I turn it off. How does this happen?
The so-called glowing of LED bulbs is more common. An LED lamp needs very little energy to light up. If conduit routes are not correctly laid, a voltage difference between wires, also called induction, for example, can already cause the connected lamps to glow slightly. Sometimes a different choice of lamps is enough to solve this problem. Sometimes we have to look for it in another solution.
Save on energy
LED lighting is energy-efficient, durable and has a long lifespan. Not only does it offer an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution, but it can also significantly enhance the atmosphere of your space through colorful and customizable lighting effects and scenes.
At Markus Technology, we offer extensive selection of LED lighting solutions for various applications, including indoor and outdoor lighting, office lighting, industrial LED lighting and much more. We choose only the highest quality LED lighting products that meet the highest standards for energy efficiency and durability.
