Ventilation and WTW

Ventilation is important for a healthy indoor environment. However, maintenance of the mechanical ventilation system is not something you think about every day. After all, the system simply does its job, 24 hours a day, all year round. Even when you do nothing about it. Nevertheless, proper maintenance of the mechanical ventilation system is essential. Not only for the life and operation of the system, but also for the health of you and your family.

Maintenance

A well-maintained ventilation system contributes to a healthy indoor environment. Mechanical ventilation systems continuously provide adequate air circulation and keep the moisture content in balance. This is especially important in homes built after 1970, as they are well insulated. Without proper mechanical ventilation, mold, bacteria and foul odors can develop in various areas of the house. This is not only a nuisance, but also increases the risk of health problems. We recommend having the ventilation system serviced and the ducts cleaned at least once every four years. With Heat Recovery, we recommend replacing the filters at least annually.

The air extracted through ventilation valves can therefore contain moisture, mold and bacteria in addition to dust. Over time, these can accumulate in the filters, valves and ducts. This reduces the capacity of the ventilation system, resulting in less fresh air entering the home.

A poorly maintained ventilation system can lead to complaints such as respiratory problems, poor sleep, coughs, headaches, nausea and aggravated allergies.

Energy consumption

The fan that moves the air continuously consumes power. Modern ventilation systems are equipped with energy-efficient direct current motor. If no maintenance is performed, the system will have to work harder and harder to move the air due to pollution and wear and tear. As a result, power consumption can quickly increase. The noise level may also increase: the fan may make more side noises due to contamination and imbalance.

Ventilation in practice

Research has shown that the mechanical ventilation in more than half of the homes in the Netherlands is not up to standard. The air in those homes does not meet the legal requirements set. Often this can be solved with cleaning, replacement and regular maintenance and proper use of the system.

The mechanical ventilation boxes we install come standard with a humidity sensor. This ventilation box revs up automatically when there is an increased humidity level in the house, such as when cooking and showering. So you don't have to worry about it and the moisture balance in the house remains ideally balanced.

The boxes we install also have the option of linking and adding a wireless control unit. For example, in addition to the control in the kitchen, you can choose to add a wireless control in the bathroom.
It is also possible to connect a CO2 sensor in bedrooms, for example, to achieve a fully automatic ventilation system for even more comfort and convenience and to save even more electricity.

Is your mechanical ventilation still equipped with an alternating current fan? Consider a modern DC fan during maintenance. The cost of purchase and installation will pay for itself within a few years, after which you will make substantial annual savings on electricity consumption.
